NETWORK CASE STUDIES - OTHER PROJECTS

. . . . Other Project Summaries

Blackpool Leisure Group's Wireless Building to Building Link

Control Key installed a wireless network between two buildings in Blackpool, to form a single bridged network spanning the two sites. Using Yagi antennas from Cisco's Aironet range, the client now has a seamless 11Mbps network segment between the buildings.

BMW Dealerships' Network Upgrade

Control Key has completed the re-work of two prestige car dealerships by re-cabling the sites with Cat5e cabling and migrating the sites to switched Ethernet. A valuable technique of installing a Cisco router to act as a bridge between the old Token Ring network and the new Ethernet network allowed BMW dealer services to gradually migrate network PCs to Ethernet without cutting any user off from the network.

New Mini dealership buildings were also brought onto the dealership network using fibre optic cable laid in liaison with building contractors, allowing a simple, manageable network to be built.

Document Storage Business installs multi site Terminal Server network

Control Key has implemented a multi site Terminal Server installation for both internal and clients' users. The installation, centred on Compaq Proliant server and Cisco routers provides leased circuit and ISDN access to terminal servers which are separated on a routed Ethernet network.

Control Key has also provided leased circuits in the project, and are now working with the client to provide an upgraded Internet connectivity solution and remote support.

Language Learning Business rolls out global Virtual Private Network to mobile users

Control Key has implemented another WatchGuard Firebox 1000 - this time replacing one of its direct competitors, the SonicWall. The business's IT Manager cited better logging, reporting, visual monitoring of real time traffic and mobile user VPN ability as winning points. Mobile VPN users are now accessing the Firebox from around the UK and Japan, and a roll out of WatchGuard SOHO and FB 700's is being planned.

International Publisher establishes UK - US VPN for web collaboration

Control Key implemented a WatchGuard Firebox II specifically to protect multiple web servers, which had previously been subject to hacker activity. Needless to say, no such problems have since been reported. The second reason for the project was to implement a VPN tunnel to a Nortel Contivity switch in the US proving the Firebox's standards based IPSec VPN capability. This VPN allows web designers and content publishers controlled access to mirror sites in the UK and the US.

Home Care Distributor's International VPN

Control Key installed a WatchGuard SOHOtc into the UK sales office of an international distributor, and implemented a Virtual Private Network to a Checkpoint Firewall 1 in Australia. This allows the Australian network administrators a secure and inexpensive path to manage the UK office and grant access to the corporate email system.

Contract Agency brings together remote sites

Control Key provided Cisco routing consultancy to the agency to rationalise the company's Wide Area Network. After having Terminal Services demonstrated remotely from CK's Proof of Concept Suite, the agency contracted Control Key to install a pair of Windows 2000 servers. These now form the deployment method for its "line of business application" for existing and new offices.

Plastics Manufacturer benefits from MS Terminal Server, Exchange, Internet Connectivity and Firewall security.

Control Key implemented a Microsoft Terminal Services solution to provide access to a legacy DOS based line of business application from a remote branch.

Control Key provided the complete infrastructure; from leased circuit to server hardware, terminal service configuration to data relocation. The project was completed, managed and documented with minimal downtime.

Control Key continued to develop the infrastructure to bring Exchange server on to the network and roll out MS Outlook 2000 to desktop and roaming laptop users. Secure Internet connectivity was installed using a leased circuit to the Internet and WatchGuard Firebox II firewall security, allowing a controlled and secure environment to emerge for the business while allowing specific users to benefit from Internet access.

The business has since taken On Site, Remote Support and Server Monitoring support options with Control Key.

City Solicitors' Mailbox Recovery

Control Key recovered the MS Exchange Server mailboxes for a firm of Westminster solicitors after the total loss of a server. After a standard restore procedure of the Exchange data failed to bring the server back online, the most recent backup tapes were supplied to Control Key and a tape of individual mailbox (.pst) files were returned by courier.

Control Key's knowledge and experience of Exchange Server recovery techniques and issues allowed the complete recovery of the valuable mailbox data together with a simple restore method for the customer site.

Global Messaging Architectural Support for top 5 Accountancy Company

Control Key provided messaging infrastructure consultancy to a top 5 accountancy company at their International Headquarters in Amsterdam. Messaging was based upon Microsoft's Exchange Server 5.5 product. Design and documentation skills were provided as well as a proposal and test plan for the implementation of new X400 mail scanning technology for protection against virus outbreaks.
